‘Germinating Photography. Casita Bonita v.ii’ January 2021 - May 2023
Photographic films, flowers, plants, seeds, stagnant water, seawater and fishing wire, 170x110cm
This practice has been influenced by organic methods and exploring the connection between nature, environmentalism and art. The artist has worked with subject matter experts to recreate the first Ons Island family and landscape archive and aim to root a sense of society within the community. This project called: “Germinating Photography. Casita Bonita v.ii” involves using natural elements like sea and stagnant water, flowers, plants and seeds, soil, sand and fire to activate analog photography and explore biological cycles. The project allowed the artist to understand the territorial behavior of plants, meteorological conditions needed for growth, and how they interact with the land presented to them. Many reels were also controlled to show issues like the scarcity and acidity of soil due to tourist presence and the power of flower’s pigments. Also, he explores the concept behind beauty and how life can grow in different environments just with love, care and generosity.
